    Very reminiscent of, and perhaps inspired by, The Lonely Ones (1942) by William Stieg. Stieg's book inspired many, as you can see by searching for the title on your search/spy engine of choice. Cartoon depictions of mental states, especially pathological ones, seem to have been very popular in midcentury America. I suppose the genre has now died out.

    @Starry Gordonst I need to look into that book then! That sounds like right up my alley of interest. I have seen other pieces of mental states/illness many times in old anatomy/psychology books I've come into contact with.
