    It's definitely a good idea. The legislature passed it. The Republican governor vetoed it for partisan reasons. But it's not a partisan issue. It is the one reform that makes our voter rolls more accurate -- thereby securing our elections -- while also ENFRANCHISING many people. The (few) Republicans who actually care about secure elections support this reform; the (many) who don't care about secure elections except as a pretext to disenfranchise people oppose it. Republicans in West Virginia and Massachusetts have supported this reform.

    It is pretty clear that Republican leadership, as a matter of practice, does not encourage people to vote. What they may say and what they actually do are entirely different things. Yes, if they really want people to vote, they should make it easier for them to register.
